In years gone by, before the advent of Television, many families used to gather of an evening so that Father could read stories to the children.
Most of the stories on this page were written to be read aloud. Indeed, most were written for a special friend, who certainly enjoyed listening.
Some stories were written for my cousins, starting when they were about 8 years old. Some were written for other young people, up to about 17 years old.
So sit the kids round the computer, have a glass of throat lubricant close at hand, and read and enjoy.

The Lake is an essay, not a story. Anyone who loves the mountains as I do should enjoy The Lake.
Come for a swim in The Lake .
